Capture: everything it does
The ten things the phone Capture app does, with how to do each one.
Download the printable guide (PDF, 2 pages)
Open Capture on your phone (Menu, then Capture), pick the sale and pick your phone. Use a normal browser tab, not a private or incognito one: Capture keeps each lot on the phone until it uploads, and private tabs don't allow that. The camera fills the screen. Here is everything it does.
1. Photos and clips
Tap the shutter for a photo. Hold the shutter to record a clip; let go to stop. A clip runs up to 30 seconds. Clips are good for a clock that chimes or a toy that runs.
2. Voice notes
Hold Mic and talk: maker, age, condition, what you know about it. Let go to stop. The note is saved with the lot, and the AI draft reads it along with the photos.
3. The shot list
Shoot the model or serial label, the barcode, the maker's mark or signature, and any damage. The AI reads them to name the lot. Tap Shot list at the top for the reminder; it shows at the start of each session until you tap Don't show again.
4. Shooting without signal
Keep shooting in a basement or a barn. Each lot is saved on the phone when you tap Next lot, and uploads in the background when there is signal. Keep the page open until the upload bar finishes. Done waits for the uploads before it leaves.
5. Several phones at once
Each phone numbers lots from its own block (Phone 1 takes lots 1 to 500, and so on), so nobody doubles a number. On the "Which phone is this?" screen, tap Add another phone for each extra person.
6. The sticky header
Tap Header to set the location tag, consignor and starting bid. They carry over to every lot until you change them.
7. Zoom and checking photos
Tap 1x, 2x or 4x, or pinch the screen, to get close on a mark. Tap a thumbnail to see the photo full screen and pinch to check focus. Retake puts the next photo in its place; Delete removes it.
8. Photos from the library
Already took the photos with the camera app? Tap + next to the thumbnails and pick them from your phone's library. They are sized down the same way as Capture's own photos.
9. The cover photo
The first photo of a lot is its cover in search and the catalog, marked Cover on the thumbnail. Shoot the whole item first, straight on. You can drag photos into a new order on the lot's page later.
10. Undo last lot
Saved a lot by mistake? Tap Undo last lot and confirm. The lot and its photos are removed, and the next lot gets its number back.
After Capture
Lots land on the sale as drafts. Read each one on Review before you approve it. See Cataloging: photos, phone capture and AI drafting.
